Life with God = “Problematic”, Beautiful and Joyful (Ecclesiastes 3:1-15)

Life with God = “Problematic”, Beautiful and Joyful (Ecclesiastes 3:1-15)

Introduction

Life with God is “problematic” (vv1-9)
– We cannot control the “what, when and why” of life events.
– God is in control, but we cannot figure out what God is up to.

Life with God is beautiful (vv10-11)
– Tension between God’s eternal purpose and our temporal limitation.
– Our sinful state causes us to doubt God’s goodness.
– Our life is like a tapestry. God is the Master Weaver.
– We need to trust God. He is wise, good and mysterious.

Life with God is joyful (vv12-15)
– God wants us to enjoy our life even though we cannot fully understand what He is doing.
– The call to enjoy life is consistent throughout the book of Ecclesiastes.
– To enjoy our life we need to stop worrying and rest in the sovereignty of God.

Jesus’ life is an example of the tapestry of time – beautiful in its time (at just the right time).

The message of Ecclesiastes is hope and joy despite being filled with dark hues of vanity, frustration, and perplexity.

Reflection:

  1. Am I frustrated and perplexed with my Christian Life?
  2. How can i learn to see the beauty in the things that happened?
  3. Am I enjoying my life in God?
